The MN Twins Win! and I Get Crafty

14 Sep

It’s been a little while (one week in fact) since I last posted something up here, and I’ve not been super busy, but I have been out and about a little bit. A Twins game in which *SHOCKER* the Twins actually won, a kielbasa festival and Greek festival in the same day and then I partook of a little craft project for myself. Here are the results.

The Twins played the Chicago White Sox and actually pulled out a win somehow. It was nice to see them win, but the best part about the new ballpark is still the skyline view. The weather was particularly perfect, and I took some pictures of the fading light and the moon rising above Minneapolis.

As for the kielbasa festival and Greek festivals, I went to them for different reasons. The kielbasa fest was attended for the nice ceramic mug from Kramarczuks and the free beer that came with said mug, and the Greek fest was attended for the food. The gyros that were served, along with the fries, at the Greek fest were really great. I mean, with a whole pig on a spit, how could it not be good?

Then, I took it upon myself to do a little craft project. Since I had a bunch of film negatives lying around, I figured there must be something I could do with them. Lo and behold, a site called poopscape.comhad the answer for me! I bought a lamp at IKEA and then put the negatives around it so when it lights up, it shows the pictures through it. For this one I used old negatives from trips I had been on. The first row is Alaska, the second and third is Paris, then is Italy, London and some miscellaneous stuff like skiing trips. Overall, I would have to deem the whole thing a success. It looks really great at night and brings up lots of great memories from trips! Highly recommended and really easy if you happen to have film negatives just lying around and don’t know what to do with them.

A Bucket ‘O Beer? Don’t Mind If I Do.

28 Sep

The reason that I don’t go out to bars or other such drinking establishments by myself is for fear of ending up like this dude.

Bucket 'O Beer Man

Bucket 'O Beer Man

During an abhorrent Monday Night Football showing last night, this guy was sat by himself at the bar at Old Chicago in Eagan. He was rooting for both the Packers and the Twins (both losers on the night by the way). As he sat by himself, he would alternately root for the big hit or the big pass play. Sometimes, these things came at the same time and he had to choose which to root for. Alternately, when the two teams screwed up royally, he would yell about it to the whole bar, as if everyone there was hanging on his every call.

“Oh god, what a bad call,” I would think to myself in disgust as I shook my head. “I wonder what that large, yelling man at the bar has to say about it?” Of course, I didn’t need to think this for long because he would simply start ranting at the TV in a loudly, slushy voice. “GRAABABBAHHDAH! FUGGING refs… yOU all gots to get some glASSES you piecies of SHITTY piles of *incoherent rambling garbage* PUNKS!”

If you will notice, he not only has a Packers dew rag on his head covered by a Packers hat, but he is also the proud consumer of the bucket of Budweiser there. Yes folks, dude sat himself down, ordered a bucket of Buds for himself, and proceeded to yell at two sports teams at the same time. Gee, I wonder how that enormous beer gut formed on him? Surely it can’t be from the downing of an entire bucket of beers, possibly almost every night of his life to this point, all by himself, can it? I really wish dude had on a cheesehead and Twins jersey or some other dumb crap to really make him stand out even more. Also, on the way out of the bar, he did the sidler thing and hypothetically scared the crap out of me (see how I said hypothetically there, and not literally? That would have been a sticky situation otherwise). Anyway, he sidled up to me as I was taking a sip of water, put his hand on my shoulder and said, “Don’ wurry, we’ll get ’em.” I won’t lie, I jumped and said “fuck.” Seriously, this is why I hate weird ass drunk people and their skeevy, sliminess. Just stay the hell away from me so I can observe and make fun of you from a distance. Like I said, the Packers lost, as did the Twins (though they don’t really matter to me), but because I needed a pick-me-up, I took this picture while waiting for the bus this morning.

It was as if the universe was saying, “Don’t worry, the future is all rosy and bright…”

To which I replied, “The fuck it is universe. Screw you.”

Some quick pictures of things that I have been to in the past few weeks, or been doing, or have just been thinking about possibly being up to doing at some point in the near or far future. So, without further ado.

This is the beach. It is located at Lake Calhoun and is on 32nd street. It is very hot and pretty rocky, but there are some good sites to be seen.

Next up is the Pizza Luce Block Party. Lookbook and Brother Ali were the highlights of the event, both of which are pictured here. That chick from Lookbook is also really hot, I only wish I was wearing my glasses 😦

Then I went golfing in Wisconsin on Sunday. See that bunker out there? Yeah, I drove the ball into that. It’s only like 300 yards… into the wind. No biggie.

Target Field once again, but this time from the nosebleeds with a view of the Minneapolis skyline. Left early as it was the Twins up 7-1 and went to a happy hour for the final outs. Smalley’s 87 Club in case you wanted to know. Very good apps and cheap beer!

Finally, this past Sunday I went and saw the Led Zeppelin tribute band Zed Leppelin. They are supposed to be one of the best in the nation, and they did not disappoint. The concert lasted almost two hours and was FREE! Plus, they had actual production value and sounded very, very close to the real deal. One of the best concerts I’ve seen actually.

The only problem with concerts like this is the people they tend to attract… and these people invariably always sit directly in front of me. Case in point, the people in the picture below. The one on the right bears a striking resemblance to Nick Frost’s character in Spaced, while the one on the left was an idiot who put his stupid ass hat on sideways and then was the only person to actually put in EAR PLUGS while listening to these guys. Oh yeah, and he stood up and blocked my view while doing so for about a full minute. I wanted to slap him in the face, but I’m better than that… usually.

Stay tuned for the next post of more concert action, as well as some scenic stuff and the Minnesota State Fair. Also MST3K as well!

Target Field and Twins Game

10 Jun

Last night, I ventured into the wilds of Minneapolis to experience outdoor big league baseball in Minnesota. Let me start off by saying this isn’t the first time I’ve been to an outdoor game in MN, but the St. Paul Saints are not quite the same thing. Anyway, for the first time visitor, Target Field is really something spectacular. I now believe that the Twin Cities have two of the finest major league sporting venues in the country, with the Twins stadium joining the Xcel Energy Center where the Wild play. As you can see from this picture, the place was packed. I had to get tickets off of Craigslist the day of the game. However, I chose pretty much the perfect seats for the perfect price, as you will see in a bit.

Simply walking around this place is a bunch of fun. Here is the team from FSN North. As you can see, Marney Gellner and Roy Smalley were on point to give a great Twins pregame show. Or, at least, I assume they did. I did not stick around. Too much other stuff to do.

Here are some pics of the field. As you can see. It is a gorgeous thing.

And here is the view from my seat. I got these off Craigslist for $20. It was one of the better purchases I have made in the last few weeks. Not only are they great seats, they were less than face value for the tickets!… by a dollar. They only bad thing about sitting in this spot is that you cannot see the gigantic video board as it is directly above you, and blocked by the underside of the upper deck. Here are some pics from throughout the game as the light changed to night. Also, with these seats, anytime someone hit the ball to left field – like when Punto hit it over Podsednik’s head, I’m pretty sure I was on TV for about a quarter of a second. However, I understand why he may have been thinking about other things, for Christ’s sake, have you seen his wife ?!!?

And now, onto the food and drinks. Let’s face it, ballpark food is spendy. It becomes even more spendy when you throw in getting something to drink (which is why I never, ever get anything to drink). I went with the Twins big dog and chips ($5.25). I think its a quarter pound beef hot dog and it comes with a bag of chips. Its not a bad deal really, but the next time I go back, I’m getting the regular Twins dog, as it comes with chili and cheese for only $3.75.

The new ballpark also features vendors that sell all sorts of different items, like this giant leg of beef where you can get a beef sandwich that is fresh shaved. There were also stir-fry places and nachos and walleye and pork chops on a stick. One of the draws that I went for – in preparation for the State Fair – were some cheese curds ($4.75). They are not cheap, but anytime you deep fry cheese, the results speak for themselves. Plus, they come in this cute little Leinenkugel’s canoe.

As always, beer is off the charts. Here is one of the many vendors hawking his wares. Regardless of whether you want your beer in a cup or in the bottle, its going to cost you $7. However, the one thing that I did notice was that they did sell some local brews (like Summit and Leinenkugels) for $6.50. I don’t know about you, but I would take a 50 cent savings to get a better beer any day. If you plan on getting your buzz on at the game, be prepared to spend some serious cash. Or, simply get a buzz before you come to the game, or invest in a handy flask, because they only search you if you have a bag on you; i.e. wear shorts with cargo pockets!

Lastly, this was the dude I was sitting next to. As usual, he was loud and berating for a bit but they quieted down. It was especially odd to hear him “lovingly” berate our own player in the outfield, until he hit a home run and was then very cordial to him.

At the end of the night though, the Twins won the game 6-2 and it was a perfect end to a great game and a spectacular night for baseball. Are we going to get spoiled up here in Minnesota now that we have outdoor baseball? Well, we probably will, until September and October show up, then who knows.
