Pictures from Rock the Garden

20 Jun

After getting back from Montreal, it struck me that taking pictures with my phone is ok, as long as the subject is up close and I don’t care what the end result really looks like. It was while using my dad’s camera up there that I remembered just how nice it is to have any camera with an actual zoom function that doesn’t distort pictures. Therefore, I took it upon myself to snatch up a new point-and-shoot camera of my own. It’s not very thrifty of me, but I think it’s a decent camera for what I got it for. It’s a Sony Cybershot DSC-H70 and it’s fun to play around with.

I sort of really wanted it to take to Rock the Garden this year, and I’m glad I had it with me. Here are some pictures of the venue at The Walker, the crowd and the bands Tapes N Tapes, Booker T and My Morning Jacket. (No pictures of Neko Case as I didn’t watch her performance, but heard it was pretty boring anyhow.)

The Hair, My God the Hair!

30 Nov

Look, I know it was early in the morning, but you actually went with THAT hairstyle? I mean, you got up, took a shower (I hopefully assume), stood in front of the mirror, got out a brush, combed the back part of your hair normally and then said to yourself: “You know, I think I’ll go with this really long and ugly, stringy hair out past my forehead so that it hangs down and looks really out of place.” THAT is what you thought. Really? Frankly, I wish you hadn’t even attempted to comb your hair. That way you would have an excuse not to have those intensely long, pube-resembling strands flailing all over the place. But instead, you went and tried. And in the process of trying, you failed. At life. And at hair.

Come on.

Come on.

Really?

Really?

Another Typical Weekend

20 Oct

This weekend was spent doing relaxing things. On Saturday, after working out, I called my dad and we went on a bike ride from my apartment, into downtown Minneapolis, across the Hennepin Bridge into Northeast. We walked around a bit there and then headed down St. Anthony Main and across the Stone Arch Bridge and biked down West River Parkway until we hit the Greenway for the final leg back to Bryant Ave, where I live. All in all, it was a nice way to spend the afternoon and a nice 15 mile bike ride all the way round. These are just some quick pictures of the scenery from that bright Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, I went to a concert. It was Gorillaz with N.E.R.D. opening for them. It was an audio/visual treat that was well worth the money. First off, I own all of the albums from both bands, so was excited to see that N.E.R.D was going to be on the bill as well. They played a lot of new songs, but did whip out She Wants To Move, Lapdance and Rock Star. They played for about an hour, and had some dancers on the ends of the stage going for almost the full time. The workout they got must have been phenomenal. Also, Pharrell is one uncannily smooth dude. He was giving shout-outs to some woman in a sequin dress and go-go boots and even brought two audience members on stage to dance because they were dancing on the tops of their chairs.

Of course, the headliners were the main reason to go. And they did not disappoint. The entire show had visuals behind the band, including music videos, montages and even Snoop Dogg and Bruce Willis.
